Old camera: Sony DSC-F1

In the spring of 1997 I purchased a Sony DSC-F1 digital camera. I've been having a lot of fun with it.

The camera is reasonably well designed but the Windows software that is supplied with it is really terrible. And I don't want to use Windows with it anyhow; I prefer Linux. Antonio Piccolboni has collected a lot of information on Digital Photography and Linux.

Sony doesn't provide documentation for the communication protocol used by the DSC-F1. However, it has been reverse engineered, and some fairly basic Linux tools have been written. The names of some of the tools are based on the Japanese name for the camera, "Cyber-shot".

chotplay (version 0.05) can be used to retrieve the images from the DSC-F1 in several formats, including PPM and JPEG.
